Brief Bio: Tulku Theglo Rinpoche, also known as Padma Theg Chog Tanpa'i Gyaltsan was recognized by Jamyang Khentse Chokyi Lodru as the incarnation of his second son, Padma Dorje. Tulku Theglo was enthroned when he was five years old and at age ten entered Dodrubchen Monastery in Golog and began his formal studies. He studied under four great Khenpos such as Khenpo Gangnam, Thrindar, Wangdei Gyangtrul Dondrub Dorje and Washul Khenpo Lodru. Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche (right) is one of the most highly qualified scholars and meditation masters of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. He entered Gochen Monestary at the age of six, where he began intensive training in all facets of Tibetan Buddhism. He is considered a Master of Dzogchen, the most highly developed tradition of spiritual practice in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinposhe (left) is a Tantric Master as well as an accomplished author, poet, and Buddhist historian. His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche, supreme head of the Nyingma lineage, enthroned him as Abbot of the Nyingma Institute and Orgyen Chokholing Monestary in Kathmandu, Nepal. He is a Tulku, holding all of the transmissions and empowerments of the Nyingma,Kama, and Terma lineages.

Teaching of Avalokiteshvara in the tradition of Mahasiddha Tsembupa
The teaching is based on the Anuttarayoga tantra and originated from the Mahasiddha Tsembupa, who was born in upper Tibet, near Sakya.
Tsembupa showed unique qualities at a very young age and mastered both meditation and contemplation. Having abandoned worldly activities, he lived a simple life with minimal possessions as a part of his meditation practice. His impoverishment literally gave him his name of Tsembupa, which means the tailor who patches his old and torn clothing.
Many people recognized Tsembupa’s attainments as those of a great master and, although honored administrative posts were offered by various monasteries, his devotion to his meditative practice was his priority.
It was in his meditation that he experienced a pure vision of Vajrayogini who conferred upon him the instruction for this Avalokiteshvara teaching. Included within this teaching are instructions on the preliminaries of taking refuge, Vajrasattva, mandala offering and Guru Yoga. This teaching includes the creation and contemplation stages, as well as phowa.
Tsembupa lived and practiced in seclusion, so only a small group of six disciples received the teachings. Two disciples were able to pass the teachings to others, generating a reception of the teachings that became well known and widely spread. It was through this teaching that many master practitioners attained realization.
Tsembupa practiced the Avalokiteshvara tantra all of his life and, at the time of his death, he used the phowa and liberated himself to the dakini land.

UPDATE
It is with regret that the visit of Jetsun Kusho Chimey Luding, planned at the end of January, will be delayed until the Spring of 2010. The weather in the Pacific Northwest was been unusually difficult in December '08 and already in the first days of January '09. It had been planned that Jetsunma would be traveling by car from British Columbia, but with excessive snow in mountain passes and flooding already occurring in sections of Washington and Oregon, including here in Portland, it became obvious that driving, not only for Jetsunma's party, but for the students and friends of the Portland Sakya Center, would be difficult, if not impossible. It just made good sense to take away the hazard and plan for a better time.

Ewam Choden Tibetan Buddhist Center is proud to announce the upcoming visit of His Eminence Thartse Khen Rinpoche this Spring 2009.
H.E. Nhawang Sonam Chhyokden Lama Bista, also known as Thartse Khen Rinpoche, is the 77th throne holder of Ngor Ewam Choden monastery. The Thartse lineage belongs to the Ngor tradition of the Sakya lineage. It dates back to its founder Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo and is the lineage of our venerable resident teacher, Lama Kunga Rinpoche.
His Eminence studied in Puruwala Sakya Institute for six years under the tutelage of the great scholar H.E. Khenchen Appey Rinpoche before completing his final years in Sakya College . His ritual training was done at Ngor Monastery in Manduwala.
H.E. Thartse Khen Rinpoche shares his duty of running the Ngorpa Centre with the present H.E. Luding Khen Rinpoche. Rinpoche frequently travels overseas to Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong to give teachings and spread the Buddhadharma.
His Eminence will start his first US tour with extensive teachings and empowerments at Ewam Choden. He will then visit our sister centers Sakya Kachod Choling in Washington, and Tsechen Kunchab Ling in New York. please keep checking the web for updates

KYABJE KATOK GETSE RINPOCHE WILL GIVE EMPOWERMENTS THIS WEEKEND AT DORJE LING
Due to the kindness of Ven. Gyatrul Rinpoche, Dorje Ling will host a recently arranged visit by H.H. Katok Getse Rinpoche. The empowerments are from the Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje cycle.
H.H. Katok Getse Rinpoche is a highly esteemed incarnate lama of the Katok branch of the Nyingma lineage. He was recognized as a tulku by His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa, the previous Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, and Adzom Gyalsé Rinpoche. From a very early age, he received teachings and empowerments from Dudjom Lingpa’s son Tulku Nyida, Khenchen Jigmé Puntsok Rinpoche, Adzom Drukpa, Katok Moktsa Rinpoche, Khenpo Ngakchung, and H.H. the Dalai Lama.
H.H. Getse Rinpoche has done many years of retreat, taught widely throughout Asia and is well known for his mastery of the Dzogchen approach. Fulfilling a request made by Chagdud Rinpoche, Katok Getse Rinpoche serves as the head lama of Katok Ritrod, Chagdud Gonpa’s retreat center in Parping, Nepal.
On his tour through North America, we are fortunate to have been included in his schedule at this late date. It will be an opportunity to receive empowerments from a great teacher in a small, informal setting. He will be accompanied by Lingtrul Rinpoche, a translator and assistants.

Bio on Khenchen Rinpoche: In 1969 he entered the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan studies at Sarnath, near Varanasi. There he followed a nine-year curriculum in Buddhist studies and general education under his principal teacher, Khenpo Palden Sherab, and other masters. His class work included Sanskrit, English and intensive studies in the textual traditions of Indian and Tibetan Buddhism. He graduated with the degree of Acharya in 1978, ranking first overall among the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism represented at Sarnath. His Holiness the Dalai Lama honored his achievement with the award of a silver medal. After graduation he was invited to teach at Palyul Namdroling Monastery at the Tibetan settlement in Bylakuppe, near Mysore in South India. For several years he was engaged in training the young monks and teaching in the monastic college, the Ngagyur Nyingma University (Shedra). In 1983 he was enthroned as a khenpo by His Holiness Pema Norbu Rinpoche. In the Nyingmapa tradition, a khenpo is a professor of Buddhist studies.
Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso has received all of the major lineage empowerments and transmissions of the Nyingmapa school, including the Dudjom Tersar from Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche; the Longchen Nyingthig Yabshi, and Nyingma Kama from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche; and the Rinchen Terdzod and Nam Chos from Pema Norbu Rinpoche. He has done intensive dzogchen practice under the guidance of Penor Rinpoche and other eminent masters including Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche. Pema Norbu Rinpoche has authorized him to represent the monastery and to teach, to confer empowerments and to give personal instruction in Buddhist practice.

Yeshi Silvano Namkhai, son and student of Choegyal Namkhai Norbu, was born in Italy in 1970. He received Christian and Buddhist education, studied philosophy and computer science and worked in the field of modern technologies.
H.H. Sakya Trizin recognized Yeshi Silvano Namkhai as the reincarnation of Choegyal Namkhai Norbu's maternal uncle, Khyentse Rinpoche Chokyi Wangchug, giving him the name Jamyang Chokyi Nyima.
In 2007 he went to Tibet and accepted his duty to help and support the monastery in Central Tibet. Recently he has more and more dedicated his life to the future of the Dzogchen Community founded by Choegyal Namkhai Norbu, following his Teacher's instructions and fulfilling students wishes.
Yeshi Silvano Namkhai's style is open and simple. He promotes fresh and spontaneous interest, speaking directly and helps one enter the essence of Buddhist teachings and to discover one's real nature. During last two years Yeshi Silvano Namkhai gave more then 60 talks and teaching sessions in Europe, Russia, USA, South America and Australia.

This empowerment bestows the blessing of the female Bodhisattva Vajrayogini, who is a wisdom Dakini of the Higher Yoga Tantric System. The practice of Vajrayogini belongs to the Mother class of Tantra and it is a direct aid in gaining enlightenment. Individuals who receive this empowerment are welcome to join us in the monthly Vajrayogini practice.
His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Sakya, Head Lama of Sakya Monastery, was born in Tibet in 1929. He continues the great Sakya lineage which began with Khon Konchok Gyalpo (1034—1102). He received teachings of the unbroken Khon lineage, the Sakya Vajrakilaya, the Hevajra and the complete Lamdre Tsogshe, from his father, H.H. Trichen Ngawang Thutop Wangchul, the last Sakya throne holder in Tibet. He also studied with many other great Buddhist teachers, including Dzongsar Khyentse Jamyang Chökyi Lodrö and Dingo Khyentse Robsal Dawa.
In 1960, H.H. J.D. Sakya was invited to work on a University of WA research project on Tibetan civilization which was sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation. At the request of students, he co-founded with H.E. Dezhung Rinpoche the Sakya Tegchen Choling, a center for the study of Tibetan Buddhism and culture. In 1984, the center became the Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism.

Jigme Tromge Rinpoche Nyingma Empowerment Series & Practice ~ EMPOWERMENTS & PRACTICE ~
These practices lie at the heart of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche's legacy.
During the time of Guru Rinpoche, one of his 25 disciples was named Gyalwa Chokyang, a great siddha. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche was the incarnation of this great master. During Rinpoche's lifetime he revealed a number of hidden dharma treasures, Termas, of Guru Rinpoche. The transmissions of these practices were bestowed by Chagdud Rinpoche on Jigme Rinpoche to uphold and, when the conditions were right, to bestow on others. Through the ripening of our collective dharma-virtue, he will now do that here at Amrita. These Termas of Chagdud Rinpoche are: Green Tara, Seven-Eyed Red Tara, Wrathful Guru, and Kurukulle (Padma Dakini).
We will also be receiving the blessings of the Dudjom Lineage Medicine Buddha and Lion-Faced Dakini, and the Rigdzin Dupa of the Longchen Nyingtig Cycle of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa. As well, we will receive the root empowerment for Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche's own Terma Cycle, Padma Rangjung Nyingtig, the Essence of Siddhi, and Chagdud Rinpoche's own practice of Hayagriva from the same cycle as our Chenrezig practice revealed by the great terton, Tromge Khachod Wangpo.

THE GREAT EMPOWERMENT OF 1,000-ARMED CHENREZIG [Tromge] *Thursday & Friday, April 15th & 16th Rinpoche will begin the first part of the Great Empowerment of Chenrezig on Thursday night. Ganden Jangtse Choje Rinpoche, Lobsang Tenzin, is a greatly respected authority on sutra and tantra in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and is renowned as one of the finest scholars and practitioners of his time. Born in Tibet in 1934, Rinpoche was ordained as a novice monk at the age of seven. He entered Sera Je monastery at 17 and obtained his Geshe Lharampa degree in 1979. Following this, he entered Gyume Tantric University and two years later became master of discipline. In 1985 His Holiness the Dalai Lama appointed him abbot of Gyume, a position he held for six years. Since then he has taught extensively in India and the West. At present he holds the post of Jangtse Choje Rinpoche, one of the three highest positions in the Gelug tradition.

Kyabje Kathok Getse Rinpoche will bestow the profound Mindroling Vajrasattva empowerment which includes the complete cycle from the preliminary practices all the way to Dzogchen. In addition, Rinpoche’s empowerment and teachings for Amitabha and Phowa will help one to develop skill and confidence in consciousness transference for oneself and others at the time of death.
A Nyingma Buddhist teacher and one of the highest lamas of Kathok Monastery in Kham (Eastern Tibet), Getse Rinpoche's previous incarnation was the famed Getse Mahapandita. In this incarnation, Getse Rinpoche was born in Tibet, where he trained with some of Tibet’s greatest masters. Fulfilling a request made by Chagdud Rinpoche, Katok Getse Rinpoche serves as the head lama of Chagdud Gonpa’s retreat center in Parping, Nepal. Getse Rinpoche also shares an especially close relationship with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama.

SMS retreat in Portland, Oregon
Free Public Talk Fri 3-Sept, 7-9pm Location will be either our new practice space at 5014 NE 24th at Alberta, or the Tibetan Cultural Center. Contact us as we get close to the date for that location. The actual retreat will all on NE 24th.
We are pleased to announce an SMS base retreat with Jim Valby in Portland, OR. Jim Valby has an open and engaging style of explaining Chögyal Namkhai Norbu’s Dzogchen teachings. Jim Valby is a student of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu since 1982. He has been leading SMS retreats since 1999 and has worked as a translator on Rinpoche’s Ka-Ter Project since 2003.
RETREAT The retreat in Portland will focus on the SMS Base text the ‘Precious Vase’ and will emphasize Dzogchen transmission and practice. We will also study & apply the essence of Sutra and Tantra. The retreat will include both teaching and practice. Jim Valby will also hold a public talk in Portland (location TBD) on September 3rd with the title: Three Paths of Liberation: Sutra, Tantra & Dzogchen.
WHO CAN ATTEND All those who have transmission of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and those who are seriously interested.

In this teaching, Lama Tharchin Rinpoche will give an overview of the purpose, intention, structure and goal of sadhana practice. Rinpoche will review the main sadhanas that we practice in our lineage and will recount the historical emergence of the terma revelations. He will also share personal stories of the great masters of the Dudjom Tersar lineage which will help to inspire us and give us confidence in the lineage and our practices; we will get a better understanding of the function and value of sadhana practice establishing a firm foundation for further practice & teachings.
This is the first in a series of teachings on Dudjom Tersar sadhanas that Rinpoche will be giving. For those of us who are already doing sadhana practice, or for those of us wishing to start, this teaching will be a great source of blessings and inspiration.
