Dear Friend of Kyabgon Kunzang Dechen Lingpa,
We have just heard from the monastery in India that Rinpoche passed
away.
http://www.zangdokpalri.org/teacher.html As you can imagine the monks and nuns are very upset. Rinpoche was
nearly 80 years old and for the last 6 years suffered from an
extreme heart condition and was often on the brink of death. The
doctors who treated him in the USA initially couldn't understand how
he had survived. Through your generosity in the past we were able to
get him a state of the art electronic heart pacemaker and that saved
his life a few times.
Those of us lucky enough to have gotten close to Rinpoche heard him
relate again and again that he was at the end of his life and only
wished to spend his final time in secluded meditation benefiting
beings. He explained that that was the only method by which a
meditation master such as he could attain the rainbow body, his life
long dream. He spoke directly of abandoning that dream of a peaceful
end in order to instead struggle, traveling the world to teach and
heal and collect donations so that he could fulfill the vision of
the completion of Zangdokpalri Temple and medical clinic on a
Himalayan hilltop in Arunachal Pradesh, the poorest and least
populated state in India.
Clearly Rinpoche was suffering greatly in order to build this Temple
to establish the foundations for the sangha of nearly 200 monks and
nuns that spontaneously gathered around him as well as provide
medical care to the local people. This temple is now only half
complete. Nearly a hundred workers and artisans are working full
time whenever there are funds available to pay them. The monastery
council has prepared detailed accounts earlier this year that
indicate a bare minimum of $250,000 is needed to finish just the
temple. With these funds completion could comethis year, and with
this aim in mind Rinpoche had recently scheduled to travel once
again to England and the USA to obtain donations.
Now that plan is just a thought. But we have an opportunity to not
let Rinpoche's vision die with him. We can donate what we can and
encourage others' participation so that Rinpoche's vision comes to
fruition. We can join with him in deathlessness.
When I got the news I was in a taxi heading over to a video and audio
studio. Tapes of Rinpoche's last dzokchen teaching, "Pointing Out The
Nature of Mind", have just been discovered by a professional
cinematographer and we are working to make copies of this precious
teaching available for his students. Those of us who donate 108
dollars can receive a gift of an audio cd of this teaching.Donations
in excess of 250 dollars can receive a video DVD of the teaching.
These teachings are clearly translated. Those of us who were lucky
enough to be present were awestruck with the directness and
compassion of the transmission.
With obvious sadness but with joy knowing that we will join together
with Rinpoche and see his vision fulfilled. Thank you,
Moke Mokotoff for Zangdokpalri Foundation for Great Compassion
