Rinpoche will bestow the complete cycle of empowerments from
the 27 volumes of collected termas of Kunzang Nyima. Samdrup
Rinpoche will be assisting Theglo Rinpoche.

Brief Bio: Tulku Theglo Rinpoche, also known as Padma Theg Chog Tanpa'i Gyaltsan was recognized by Jamyang Khentse Chokyi Lodru as the incarnation of his second son, Padma Dorje. Tulku Theglo was enthroned when he was five years old and at age ten entered Dodrubchen Monastery in Golog and began his formal studies. He studied under four great Khenpos such as Khenpo Gangnam, Thrindar, Wangdei Gyangtrul Dondrub Dorje and Washul Khenpo Lodru. Rinpoche received empowerments from Dzongsar Khentsei Jamyang Chokyi Lodru, Dzogchen Rinpoche Jigdral Changchub Dorje, Shechen Kongtrul Rinpoche Padma Lekpai Lodru and Dodrubchen Tubten Thrinley Palzangpo, Dodrubchen Rigdzin Tenpai Gyaltsen also known as Rigdzin Jalu Dorje, Dungkar Chogtrul Ngedon Gyatso and others. The empowerments received from them included the Rinchen Terdzod, the thirteen sadhanas of the Kama lineage, the Nyingthig Yabzhi, the Nyingthig Tsapod, the Dupa Do, the eighteen divisions on the meaning of Ah from the mind class, the Vajra Bridge of the expanse class, the Damcho, Dechen lamchog, the three aspects of Kagyad, the Sakya'i kunrig, the generation and completion stage of liberation through hearing, including all the reading transmissions.

The great deeds of the Buddha include his ascent to the god realms to teach dharma to benefit gods and repay the kindness of his mother. This date commemorates his return at the request of his human disciples. The holiday is one on which the karmic effects of virtuous or negative actions are said to be multiplied by a ten million; it is customary in the Tibetan tradition to make offerings and engage in prayers on this day. Maitripa will host the Guru Puja (Lama Choepa) prayers with tsog; all are welcome to attend, and bring food or flower offerings if you wish.

Passing through the Gateless Gate: Emptiness in the Zen Buddhist Tradition

A monk asked Joshu, "Has a dog the Buddha Nature?"

Joshu answered, "Mu."

In the Zen koan tradition, Mu (無), or "not; nothing; negation," is the gateway to enlightenment. The Mu koan is the first koan in the Gateless Gate koan collection (13th century), and it is the koan Zen students must pass in order to enter formal practice of koans. Koans are exchanges between Zen students and Zen masters, recorded over centuries, that help us go beyond the limits of our conceptual minds. In Zen koan practice, rather than read or study about the koan, we do the koan, learning the wisdom inherent in it from the inside out. In this class, we will examine the method of Zen investigation--understanding emptiness through our direct experience.

Tenku Ruff Osho is an advanced MDiv student at Maitripa and an ordained Zen priest.

Lama Tsongkhapa (1357-1419), the founder of the Tibetan Gelugpa tradition, is renowned as a great scholar, practitioner, meditator, teacher, and author. Among his many accomplishments, he revitalized the monastic code in Tibet, established the annual Great Prayer Festival, established Ganden Monastery, and authored many texts including several on the Graduated Path to Enlightenment (Lamrim). We remember this great teacher's kindness and aspire to actualizing the same realizations by practicing together on his anniversary. It is customary to make extensive offerings, especially of lights, symbolic of dispelling the darkness of ignorance. Lama Zopa says, "By offering lights, we create the cause of enlightenment, of liberation from samsara, and of the happiness of future lives. Also, success will happen in this life." You can even make offering of your Christmas lights!

Teachings with HE Garchen Rinpoche




Garchen Rinpoche 2 According to the supplication by Drikung Kagyu Seattle disciples, H.E. Garchen Rinpoche kindly agreed to visit the center again in 2014 and graciously offered to teach for two consecutive weekends. Rinpoche will grant the Amitabha empowerment and Phowa instructions as well the Shitro empowerment and Bardo teachings. Finally, Rinpoche will offer the White Tara long-life empowerment. Even though practitioners of the modern day do wish to practice the Dharma, they are busy and do not have sufficient time. The Buddha taught countless Dharmas with great love according to the needs of diverse sentient beings. Je Marpa Lotsawa said: "All others have instructions that lead to enlightenment if one meditates. But I have an instruction that will lead to enlightenment without meditation." Thus, we are extremely fortunate to receive the instructions on Phowa, a practice that does not require long periods of meditation, from H.E. Garchen Rinpoche, for these instructions will place a powerful imprint into our minds. Even if we are not able to train in Phowa perfectly throughout our lives, the mental imprints of these instructions will be of tremendous benefit to us at the time of death. Whether or not we wish to die, or are powerful, smart, rich or poor, we are all bound to die sooner or later.The Shitro empowerment, then, introduces us to the true nature of our body and elements. The Bardo instructions explain the nature of the visions that will appear to us during the Bardo state after death.

H.E. Avikrita Rinpoche will be bestowing “The Initiation of the Three Wand Sisters (Yugu Chesum
Ma)” on February 2nd
The Three Wand Sisters or “Yugu Chesum Ma” is a special practice of the Sakya lineage.
They are Dharma Protectors who are summoned from Bodh Gaya in India to clear away obstacles
on the path to enlightenment and to fulfil our needs and wishes. In particular, they provide abundance of food,
clothing and wealth to support practitioners and their families, and restore balance in the elements

and on February 16th, His Eminence Abhaya Rinpoche will be giving a
Chenrezi Teaching including instruction on Tsa-sur, a ritual smoke offering, and the oral transmission
of The Ocean of Compassion.
Her Eminence Dagmo Kusho Sakya will be bestowing the Red Tara (Drolma Marmo) Initiation with
Explanation on March 23rd. We are celebrating her 80th birthday on the morning of March 1st and all
are invited!
Tulku Yeshi Rinpoche will be giving instruction on the Chenrezi practice following H.H. Dagchen
Rinpoche’s Chenrezi Initiation on January 12th. He will also be leading an all-day Chӧd Retreat on
Saturday, March 22nd. This will consist of a Troma Nagmo Empowement, Machig Labdron blessing,
Chӧd practice, and Chӧd Dance. Tulku Yeshi Rinpoche will also be leading the Dharma Book Club
each month.
Khenpo Jampa Rinpoche will be giving instruction on the popular topic of “How to Perform a
Retreat” on January 19th. On Sunday, March 30th he will also be giving detailed instruction on the
Mahakala Practice that is performed each month at the Monastery.
On Friday, January 24th, Rigdzin Tingkhye will be giving a talk entitled “Getting Along with Buddha’s
Mind: An Evening of Reflection and Storytelling”. Come join Rigdzin as he shares about Buddhism
from a layman’s perspective in his delightful, charismatic style.

The outer benefit is that the environment becomes purified so the local
guardians,goddesses, nagas and all spirits become peaceful and happy.
This practice purifies imbalances in the land.

The inner benefit is that illness, warfare, famine and dangerous imbalances in
thefour elements, such as earthquakes, wildfires, floods or draught, are pacified.
By balancing the elements, world peace naturally arises.

The secret benefit is that the path of the practitioner has all kinds
of obstacles removed and their practice becomes enhanced.

The final benefit is perfect and complete buddhahood.

Also, Rinpoche's main teaching will be on Chod.
He will give brief teachings on the other practices listed above.

KYABJE ZOPA RINPOCHE will give
VAJRASATTVA INITIATION at Maitripa College
Saturday, April 19, 2014, 7:00 pm

The initiation will be Vajrasattva with consort (this is a Highest Yoga Tantra initiation but not a Great Initiation) The preparation & initiation take place in one day. The event is scheduled to begin at 7, and will likely go until midnight. Registration is required (see below).

Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche is not directly available for conversation until early March. However, the following information reflects Rinpoche's standard when giving this practice. This will be confirmed by March 10.

Commitment: 21 long mantras or 28 short mantras every day for the rest of your life, OR the 100,000 mantra retreat within one year.


Prerequisites: Students wishing to take this initiation should be very familiar with the lam-rim. They should be prepared to take bodhisattva and tantric vows, and to do the Six Session Guru Yoga daily.

Note: Rinpoche gives Vajrasattva with consort. However students do not have to take tantric vows (generally students should take tantric vows, but Lama Yeshe chose not to make it a requirement that students take tantric vows, and Rinpoche follows Lama's example). Taking bodhisattva vows are required.

Vasudhara (Tib. Norgyunma), sometimes referred to as Gold Tara in the West,
is the sister of Saraswati (Tib. Yangchenma). Her name translates to stream of gems.

Lama Pema Dorje Rinpoche will bestow empowerment and lead a weekend practice of Troma, the wrathful black dakini, from the Dudjom Lineage.

Lama Pema Dorje was born in 1942 on the banks of the Ganges river in Rishikesh, India, into a family of yogis whose ancestors can be traced back to Milerapa's paternal line. His first speech as an infant was Sanskrit and mantric sounds. At four, he was recognized as a reincarnation of an accomplished Indian master and started his Buddhist education. At seventeen, Lama Pema Dorje met his root guru, Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche, who gave him the entire transmission of the Dudjom lineage, as well as other Nyingma teachings.

The Reading Transmission (lüng)

The schedule will be from 9 to 12 and 2 to 5:30 each day with short breaks in the middle of each session. Lama Chönam will give some brief instruction concerning this tantra as an overview; but otherwise due to the length of the text—roughly five-hundred Tibetan folios in length or about six-hundred fifty English pages—the entire time allowed may be needed to complete the transmission.

With the direct permission of Khenchen Namdrol Rinpoche and according to his wisdom intent, both the empowerment and reading transmission are required in order to read and study the Guhyagarbha Tantra and the transcripts of Khen Rinpoche’s oral commentaries that spanned a period of nearly ten years of teaching.**

In general, the practice of Manjushri cuts ignorance and delusion, and opens the mind of wisdom. Additionally, the Black Manjushri, a more wrathful form, is a powerful force against serious illnesses, obstacles, fears, obscurations, negative forces, and protects traveling.

Prerequisite: No meat and no alcohol from the morning of the initiation until the next morning

Saraswati (Yangchenma) is a goddess of both Buddhism and Hinduism. She is the goddess of poetry, the arts, music, and of learning.
Many Tibetan Buddhist scholars attained mastery and enlightenment by her blessing and accomplishment.
She has a variety of emanations, both peaceful and wrathful. By her blessing we can more easily grasp the essence of Dharma and have clearer realization.

Tulku Yeshi has done the Saraswati practice for the past 30 years.
Bring any kind of musical instrument you play for consecration and for making music together after the initiation.
You can bring your friend’s instrument for blessing as well (even if they are not attending). If you are a singer, you can sing a song afterwards.

Tulku Yeshi Rinpoche is a Dzogchen master and the reincarnation of Dzogchen Gyaltsab Thodo Rinpoche.
He was recognized by H.H. Dalai Lama's Nyingmapa teacher Kyabje Trulshig Rinpoche. He received teachings from twenty-five masters representing all five schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
Tulku Yeshi has written thirteen books, ten of which have been published, on the subject of Tibetan Buddhism and culture, including “A One Thousand Year History of Sakyapa.”
He has published two books in English: his autobiography “A Modern Liberation Odyssey - An Autobiography of a Tibetan Nomad Lama”, “Handbook for Half-Buddhas”.
He also writes novels, poetry for mind training, provides Tibetan astrology readings, can advise people on how to enjoy their life, and can bestow empowerments.
Currently he is working on Dharma activities at Sakya Monastery in Seattle. He is now working on producing a documentary on His Holiness Jidgal Dagchen Rinpoche’s life.

Saturday and Sunday will be chanting, and dance offerings.
Monday the 10th, the original consecration day, will be an all-day event of ritual, 108 butter lamps to light, food offering,
and a grand finale of dance. Over the three days we will dance every dance we know!Join us for the celebration!

We celebrate our anniversary with the popular Newar ritual of Saptavidhānuttarapūjā, Seven Limbs of Most Excellant Ritual.
The elements of the offering are
1. vandanā Bowing Down
2. pūjana Making Offerings
3. Desana Confession of sins.
4. modana Rejoicing in Merit
5. adhyeṣaṇa Requesting the Teaching,
6. yācana Entreating the Buddha to Remain in the World for Aeons and
7. nāmana Dedication of Merits.
The ritual preparation involves many objects including the arrangement of 108 butter lamps,108 water bowls,108 tormas,

Both of them can help with overcoming various negative circumstances.
